Name: Kami[-cat] Age: 22 Character Applying For? Sohma Momiji
Why would you like to play this character?
I love the usagi! There is so much depth to his character; on the one hand, he's this happy little thing. On the other hand, he's got so many emotional scars from past events that his outlook can be dark, and he can succumb to depression. It's a challenge playing someone so outwardly happy, yet so dark inwardly. Why should we pick you, instead of another applicant?
I'd make a great Momiji, I think. On a [now-closed] forum, FurubaRama, I was the first applicant [during my original join date] to capture the many facets of the usagi. My application earned me the role, which I played until the site's close at the end of March, 2007. I haven't played Momiji since that time, but I still know the character like the back of my hand. Additionally, I've been roleplaying almost non-stop for the past three years since FurubaRama closed, albeit on an Avatar: the Last Airbender forum. I can consistently write at least 2,000 characters per roleplay post [about four paragraphs], and am detailed without going into the mundane and trivial. Plus, I'm the site creator & head admin. >_> Be damned if I can't play who I want on my own forum. =X How would you portray this character if you were given the opportunity to do so? [Such as mannerisms, personality, etc]
I'd play Momiji as he was meant to be played -- outwardly silly, mischievous, inwardly sad and hurt, and overall kind and compassionate. I'd delve into character and mindset with every post, and will develop the character as he is developed in the manga, editing it to include whatever may happen here in the roleplay. What roleplaying experience do you have, if any? If you don't, what do you think makes a good roleplayer?
I've been roleplaying for the past twelve years. I started out RPing mainly via notes/notebook [in class, when I ought to have been studying xD], then IM, then moved to forums in 2004. I started roleplaying on the aforementioned A:tLA site in October of 2005, and have been roleplaying steadily on forums since that date. I've gone from posting one liners and enclosing actions in asterisks, to writing a minimum of four paragraphs per post. I've roleplayed with some of the best writers I've ever met, and they have given me tips and ideas on how to better improve my writing skills.
How far have you read the manga? I’ve completed it!
How much of the anime have you seen, if any? All of it. It was a great series, and really brought the characters to life despite minor deviations from canon. That said, the ending of the series was way too deviated in my opinion, and I despised it. =X
What spoilers have you seen/read, if any? All of them, seeing as I've completed the series. xD
How often would you be able to roleplay, on a general basis? Generally speaking, I will be able to roleplay daily, barring any health or internet connection/access issues.
Please post your roleplay sample here, making sure your character is in the personality / mind set of the timeline [shortly after volume six]. If you have read past this, you are free to include information that has not yet been revealed, but keep it to internal musings. Your roleplay sample must be at least two standard paragraphs [though longer is better], follow the forum rules, and ProBoards ToS. Please include physical appearance as well.
{ooc;; please note! I do not expect RP samples to be as long as this. You are only required a minimum of two paragraphs, so please do not feel intimidated! [Admittedly, longer than two paragraphs would be awesome, so feel free to exceed the minimum if you are able.] ^-^}
What a beautiful day; the sun was in the sky, it wasn't too hot, and the sounds of happy birdsong filled the air. Sohma Momiji took a deep breath and let it go, smiling happily. He was going to see Tohru today, already on his way! That was always a fun-fun time. She was like... ice cream on a hot day. Only, very kawai'i. If he got there in time, he'd probably be able to catch Kyou-kun as well; it was always fun to tease that cat and make him flustered. Serves him right, the usagi huffed to himself. Always being mean to Tohru. That wasn't true, though, and the boy knew it. Running his hand through his short, curly hair, he sighed again. It was a more melancholy sigh this time; thinking about Kyou always seemed to bring out the worst in him. It was so obvious to everyone --everyone but the two of them, that is-- that Kyou and Tohru loved each other. Tohru was blind, though, and so was Kyou, and combined together made for a very unsure girl and a wrong-footed cat. It was always amusing to watch Kyou-kun turn red as a radish, wave his arms about agitatedly, and attempt to sputter out an explanation, excuse, or denial. Really, it was so funny! Despite himself, Momiji grinned.
The grin faded though as his mind turned dark once more. It was only a matter of time, he knew, before Kyounkitchi grew up, and Tohru became more aware. Then they would figure out their love for each other, and Momiji would be out of the running. Spying a park in the distance, he headed in its direction. He needed to clear his mind before arriving at Shigure's house, or the day would be spoiled. Reaching the park, Momiji wandered over to a nearby tree. Smoothing out his black skirt and his red blouse, he plopped himself down at the base of the shady tree. His black-booted feet crossed at the ankles, he played with the hem of his skirt as he continued to think. It just isn't fair, he thought with uncharacteristic bitterness. It seemed everyone he loved was taken away from him in one way or another. Mütti was the first, hating his cursed form so much she had her memories erased; then Father sent him away to keep Mütti from remembering. Momo was kept so far from him, no one even knew they were related. Now, Tohru --- Tohru was still there, but there was a part of her Momiji would never know, and a part of him Tohru would never see.
For the first time in a while, Momiji began to wonder about his appearance. Maybe, if he was taller, and dressed in boy's clothes...? Would Tohru see him then? The usagi stared at his hands, his perfectly manicured nails. He stared at his skirt, his heeled boots; he ran his fingers through his curly blonde locks, touched the bejeweled studs in his ears gingerly. Maybe that was the key. Maybe Tohru would see him as more than a kawai'i little boy if he grew up a little. Momiji felt tears start to well up; he blinked his eyes -hard- and willed the waters of sadness away. Crying and wishing wouldn't change a thing. Nor, Momiji realised, would growing up. Tohru's eyes were on Kyou-kun, maybe Yuki-kun as well. She wouldn't ever see Momiji the way he saw her, and he would just have to accept that.
Tohru's happiness was most important; revealing his feelings would just be selfish of him -- she didn't return them, and Tohru would become sad that she couldn't. The usagi shook his head, as if to shake away all the negativity. Ne, ne, this wouldn't do at all! He stood, brushing off his skirt. It was time to stop being such a sadbunny and go visit Tohru and the others. Momiji skipped out of the park, singing to himself as he went merrily along:
"♫ Yuhi no you ya ma~a~a~a~a~ani, teru, teru Mo-mi-ji. Kaeru ya tokage~e~e~e~e~e ga, Kon-ni-chi-wa~a~a~a~a.
Koi no arai mo, Tabu no ko u-ma-ni...
Yuhi no you ya ma~a~a~a~a~ani, teru, teru Mo-mi-ji. Kaeru ya tokage~e~e~e~e ga, Kon-ni~i~i-chi-wa~a~a~! ♪"
The usagi just loved that song! After all, he made it himsef. With a smile, he remembered the first time he sang it to Tohru; it was back during White Day, when he had taken her to the onsen. How happy she had been! Kyounkitchi and Yuki were no fun though; one, they were there, which ruined Momiji's plans of Hot Spring Lovin'. Two, they acted like it was just an every-day occurrence, and couldn't understand why Tohru was so overwhelmed with joy. They'd never understand her like he did...
Iie! Momiji bonked his forehead with his fist. Yamate! he ordered himself. Not a good idea to get all melancholy now -- the end of his song had also brought him to the end of his journey. There was Shigure's house up ahead. The boy ran the rest of the way, clapping his hand over his beret to keep it in place. "Ne, ne, Toh~h~h~h~h~h~h~hru~u~u~u~u <3!" He called for her, announcing his presence. There was no response. Maybe she didn't here him. Quickly he took off his boots and placed them by the front step. "Güten tag?" His voice seemed to echo through the halls. Slightly confused, Momiji searched the downstairs. "Tohru? Kyou-kun? Yuki?" Still nothing. The little boy pouted cutely, his lower lip trembling a bit. That's when he noticed the note on the table:
Gomenasai, Momiji-kun! I realised we didn't have any rice left for dinner, so I ran to the store. If you're reading this, I haven't come back yet, but I should be there soon. Gomen, gomen! I hope you weren't worried!
Ja mata~! <3 Tohru-chan (^-^)v
The blonde breathed a sigh of relief. She hadn't forgotten he was supposed to come over! Momiji felt ashamed and a little embarrassed about doubting her. Of course she wouldn't forget him! The sound of the sliding door rattling open pulled him from his thoughts. Dainty footsteps just had to be Tohru! He grinned broadly and ran out of the dining area to greet her, arms outstretched for a giant hug.
Kyou x Tohru
